Sprawl developer MAETH just fired off a trailer for their new cyberpunk FPS that is out to blow away your expectations.
The traditional cyberpunk dystopian megalopolis isn’t usually the backdrop for a laid-back slice of life experience, and this time is no different. Plugged into the body of an ex super solider named SEVEN, anybody picking up Sprawl will find themselves cut off in a neon urban nightmare and framed for the massacre of civilians during a military operation gone wrong. With nothing left but squalor and survival, which might be a pretty sad end to this tale, but when you’re put on a hit list by the ruling junta, it’s time for revenge.
What unfolds in the new trailer is a hectic movement-based FPS where players use the surrounding environment, a wealth of guns, and cybernetic enhancements to explode everything between them and freedom from the city. Guided by an entity named FATHER, SEVEN destroy the SPIRE, the towering needle protruding from the city’s centre that serves as the seat of the oppressive military government. Along the way slice with katanas, pop caps with handguns, and make precise changes to Seven’s aerobatics as you adapt and kill without any remorse.
With lots of airtime and a heavy EDM inspired soundtrack, Sprawl looks likely to take the best of Ghostrunner and give it guns. What more could you ask for from a cyberpunk future.
