Last week developer Triumph Studios and publisher Paradox Interactive have announced Age of Wonders 4, the latest installment in the beloved strategy series. The game will be arriving on May 2nd, 2023, to invite players on an epic journey through magical realms that combines 4X strategy and turn-based combat. For those more interested in story-related content, Age of Wonders 4 will also feature a new storytelling event system and hugely customizable empires that is sure to guarantee an endlessly replayable experience.
The team also shared the first Dev Journal to give players a chance to learn more about the game’s inception, big new features and what can be expected in the coming months before the official release in May.
“Age of Wonders 4 starts with the banished Wizard Kings breaking free from their otherworldly prisons. Corrupted by centuries of torment in eldritch domains, they have returned to the world of Athla and now seek other realms that lie within their grasp. Not merely satisfied to reclaim their thrones, they seek to establish themselves as gods over mortals.”
In the face of such a threat, the mortal leaders scramble to rally against the invaders. Players can choose between being one of those mortal champions or one of the returning Wizard Kings. Regardless, players will have to master the forbidden arts and prepare for a confrontation, taking the conflict to Athla and other worlds. The central theme of Age of Wonders 4 is that of Creation. The game represents a fresh spring, heralding an age of new beginnings where the magical forces of creation flow freely. This side is also reflected in-game with different color palettes and unprecedented faction creation and evolution systems.
