Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – Where To Find Elven Notes for the Storyteller

Stay awhile and listen
Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous -Where To Find All Elven Notes for the Storyteller

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is the latest creation of Owlcat Games and an indirect sequel of cRPG Pathfinder: Kingmaker. In the game, you find yourself thrust in the middle of a century-long conflict between the Abyss and the crusader nation of Mendev. Naturally, such circumstances attract a wide variety of personalities.

One of the most interesting NPCs you will cross paths with is an ancient elven mage known only as the Storyteller. He had previously made his appearance in Kingmaker where he could serve as your advisor and local Deckard Cain artifact artisan, providing you with glimpses into the past of various relics and a way to restore them. His role in PF: WotR did not change much but, seemingly prompted by your Mythic powers, his strange ability seemed to become stronger, allowing him to scry future as well.

What do his blind eyes hide? What struggles did this man face? How old is he, even, to look so much more ancient than any elf you could have possibly met? You can find answers to these questions and more as you help him uncover his past by collecting Elven Notes scattered around the game. In the guide below, you can find the precise location of notes for the Storyteller complete with screenshots and the associated quests.

Note: Patch 1.0.5 changed the overall number and some of the locations for the Elven Notes. For example, there are no Elven Notes in Pulura’s Fall, Lost Chapel or the Gwerm’s Mansion in Kenabres now. On the other hand, a new page has been added to Mage Tower in Act IV. There are a total of 20 pages scattered around the game. If you want to recover the full past of the Storyteller, you need 19. However, if you want to learn something extra and gain a way to cheese the requirements to combining the two halves of the Lexicon of Paradox, you need to collect them all.

TL/DR:

  • Elven Notes – Gray Garrison
  • Elven Notes – Conundrum Unsolved (requires solving a puzzle)
  • Elven Notes – Inconspicuous Camp
  • Elven Notes – Artisan’s Tower (can be destroyed by Devarra)
  • Page Smeared with Blood and Soot – Molten Scar (needs deciphering)
  • Elven Notes – Temple of the Good Hunt
  • Elven Notes – Heart of Mystery
  • Elven Notes – Core of the Riddle (requires solving a puzzle)
  • Elven Notes – Forgotten Secrets (requires solving a puzzle)
  • Elven Notes – Sacred Lands (requires solving a puzzle)
  • Elven Notes x2 – Areelu’s Laboratory
  • Elven Notes – Ivory Sanctum
  • Elven Notes – Nexus
  • Elven Notes – Mage Tower
  • Elven Notes – Legacy of the Ancients (requires solving a puzzle)
  • Elven Notes – Final Veil (requires solving a puzzle)
  • Elven Notes – The Enigma (requires finding 4 masks for Nenio & solving a series of puzzles)
  • Elven Notes – Iz
  • Elven Notes – Threshold

If you need a bit more info than that, proceed below for a more detailed description of how, where and when to find the pages.

PF: WotR - Storyteller

ACT I – Battle for Kenabres

Meeting the Storyteller at the Blackwing Library

  • Associated quest: The Burning City

To get started with your exciting journey of restoring relics and uncovering the past, you first need to save the man, the myth, the legend himself from cultists in the Blackwing Library of Kenabres. Doing so before the Defender’s Heart Inn gets attacked also allows you to rescue a bunch of crusaders that will help with the assault on Gray Garrison.

While in the Library, you can get the first Trickster Mythic Path interaction and find a door hidden behind a Perception check. Inside you can find one of the five Magic Essences required to restore the Covenant of the Inheritor (Errand: Restoring a Broken Belt Buckle.)

Back inside the Defender’s Heart, you can talk to the Storyteller and show him the relics you have gathered in Kenabres – Purple Stone Knife, Terendelev’s Scale, Broken Belt Buckle – and ask him if there is anything you can do to help him. The old elf will ask you to find Elven Notes stored somewhere in the Gray Garrison.

Blackwing Library - Hidden Door

Elven notes – Gray Garrison

  • Associated quest: Notes for the Storyteller / The Burning City

During your assault on the Gray Garrison, you can find the Elven Notes in the library on the second floor. If you have chosen the Trickster option of having cultists rig the Garrison, you can easily find the place – it will be in the room adjacent to the one that goes up in flames.

There are no secrets, locks or checks here, the notes can be simply looted from the nearby table. As far as Act I goes, you are all done.

ACT II – Banner Over the Citadel

Elven notes – Conundrum Unsolved

  • Associated quest: The Secrets of Creation

Your long and arduous path towards figuring out the secrets of creation (and finishing the questline of the same name) begins in a location called Conundrum Unsolved. In one of the jars in the temple, you will find slabs with symbols that are required to complete the puzzle.

The one-tile pieces only have one way to be slotted into the puzzle, so add them without thinking. For the two-tile pieces, I have attached a screenshot of the complete puzzle.

Once you are done, a door will open granting you access to a hidden room. There, you can find Elven Notes and a medium barding for your animal companion if you have one.

Elven notes – Inconspicuous Camp

  • Associated quest: None

As you travel towards Drezen, you will get a random encounter during which you can find an invitation – a Note Written in Neat Handwriting that welcomes you to visit a location called Inconspicuous Camp.

There, you can find the mysterious all-knowing kobold Crinukh. A bag right by the NPC has the coveted Elven Notes inside it.

Elven Notes - Inconspicuous Camp

ACT III – KNOW THY ENEMY

Elven Notes – Artisan’s Tower

  • Associated quest: The Dragon Hunt

Once you are done capturing Drezen, you might notice that the old elven mage is nowhere to be found. Worry not, you will get a chance to meet him again – after all, those relics are not going to repair themselves!

As a part of the quest “The Dragon Hunt”, you talk to the bounty hunter for hire named Greybor. Depending on the way your game has gone so far, you could have run into him once or even a couple of times prior to this meeting. Either way, give him a hefty sum of gold, recruit him into your party and proceed with the quest. When the task brings you to Artisan’s Tower, you will find the familiar blind elf telling stories to Devarra, the dragon terrorizing your Crusade.

As you engage the dragon, the Storyteller will beg you to prevent her from setting everything on fire – including the Elven Notes found in one of the shelves nearby. Note that these notes CAN actually get destroyed.

Elven Notes – Temple of the Good Hunt

  • Associated quest: Seek and Ye Shall Find

One more page of the Elven Notes can be found in Erastil’s temple in the location Temple of the Good Hunt. While there are a few locked chests and traps around the temple, the Notes themselves can be found simply laying on a box in the right room.

Note: if you want the Kyado to survive, you have to wait until you are on the quest Seek and Ye Shall Find to confront the witch who cursed him. The quest unlocks after you are done with the Ivory Sanctum (part of the Know Thy Enemy quest). You can only save the boy if you are an Angel or a Trickster.

Page Smeared with Blood and Soot – Molten Scar

  • Associated quest: Attack Out of Nowhere

After you have captured Drezen, you will be given a number of quests including Attack Out of Nowhere. Anevia’s scouts report that approaching demon armies sometimes seem to appear out of thin air precisely where they shouldn’t be. As you uncover more information about how the demons are sneaking into your territory, you learn of a group of demons that has been abducting people and subjecting them to a horrifying ritual performed by a Vrock Sorceress.

This very Vrock Sorceress can be found in the location called Molten Scar and she has something that belongs to our blind elven friend. Unlike the Elven Notes before, the item she has is called “Page Smeared with Blood and Soot”, and it needs to be deciphered. If you kill the Vrock, the page gets smeared with blood and doesn’t offer you clues as to how to proceed with the process. If you bluff or intimidate your way through the dialogue, you can scare the demon off and receive the page undamaged. Either way, once you bring it to the Storyteller, here’s the dialogue options you need to pick to decipher it:

  • The center of the magic shape was a prisoner
  • It looked like a small rift was opened to the Abyss
  • They repeated the word “Ravukh”

Elven Notes – Heart of Mystery

  • Associated quest: The Secrets of Creation

Having started your puzzle-loving journey for the Secrets of Creation in Conundrum Unsolved, you can proceed to the Heart of Mystery – the hub for this quest chain. There, on the table, is yet another page of the Elven Notes.

Note: build a Teleport Circle in the Tower of Yath as soon as you possibly can to save yourself a lot of running around.

Elven Notes - Heart of Mystery

Elven Notes – Forgotten Secrets

  • Associated quest: The Secrets of Creation

To be able to solve the puzzle in the Forgotten Secrets, you first require tiles with red symbols from a location called Shrine of Sacrilege. It is one of the four main puzzles in the quest The Secrets of Creation. Putting the slabs into their places in the correct order will unlock a door that holds your reward – and a page of the Elven Notes.

The one-tile pieces only have one way to be slotted into the puzzle, so add them without thinking. For the two-tile pieces, I have attached a screenshot of the complete puzzle.

Elven Notes – Core of the Riddle

  • Associated quest: The Secrets of Creation

Much like the Elven notes from Conundrum Unsolved and Forgotten Secrets, this particular page is hidden behind the puzzle from The Secrets of Creation. To be able to solve the puzzle in the Core of the Riddle, you first need to acquire quest items from the location Ravaged Long House.

Elven Notes – Sacred Lands

  • Associated quest: Weary Guardian

Sacred Lands, the location to the north from Blackwater, offers you another page of the Elven Notes – provided you can finish the side quest Weary Guardian and complete a puzzle. When you enter the location and agree to try your hand at figuring out its mysteries, you can only leave after you have finished the puzzle.

Elven Notes - Sacred Lands

Elven Notes – Areelu’s Laboratory x2

  • Associated quest: On Hope’s Wings

Like any good researcher, Areelu Vorlesh has her own laboratory filled with the results of her experiments, books, scrolls and notes – including those of the elven origin. Unlike any other location in the game, here you can find two pages! One is in the main part of the laboratory (the one you start in, on the way to the Heart of the Laboratory) and the other is in the Old Wing.

Elven Notes – Ivory Sanctum

  • Associated quest:  Know Thy Enemy

The powerful demons of unusual might seem to be pouring out of the Ivory Sanctum, the location pointed out by a number of NPCs including Arueshalae. So it is no wonder that you will get to visit it as a part of the Know Thy Enemy quest. There are quite a few secrets to find, including one of the masks needed for Nenio’s quest (“More than Nothing”, you will need it later) and, of course, a page of Elven Notes!

ACT IV – Into the Abyss

Elven Notes – Nexus

  • Associated quest: Walking on Corpses

Your journey in the Abyss begins with the exploration of the Nexus, the location connected to the Midnight Fane. As you adventure through the caves, you can find a wounded succubus – proceed to the north to find the key she is talking about as well as yet another page left behind by the forgetful elven mage.

Elven Notes – Mage Tower

  • Associated quest: The Art of Making Friends

Sooner or later your quest of getting new friends and impressing the denizens of Midnight Isles will bring you to the Mage Tower. There, you can run into one familiar blind face – don’t forget to ask about how the Queen is doing if you plan on winning the royal heart!

On the very same floor, you can find another piece of Elven Notes. The man really left them all over, didn’t he?

ACT V – Endgame

Elven Notes – Legacy of the Ancients

  • Associated quest: The Secrets of Creation

Missed the Secrets of Creation while being stuck in the Abyss?

Much like the Elven notes from previous related locations, this particular page is hidden behind the puzzle from The Secrets of Creation. To be able to solve the puzzle in the Legacy of the Ancients, you first need to acquire quest items from the location Place of Execution.

Elven Notes – Final Veil

  • Associated quest: The Secrets of Creation

The final puzzle in the Secrets of the Creation series awaits! In order to solve the puzzle, you require slabs from the location called Bone Hills. In my playthrough, it unlocked on the world map only after finishing Iz. If you seemingly can’t find it, that might be what is holding you back.

Elven Notes – The Enigma

  • Associated quest: More than Nothing

Remember, the absence of an answer is an answer too! Nenio’s personal quest chain, More than Nothing, requires you to solve the mystery of the Nameless Ruins and what lies beyond. To do that, you need to acquire four masks to open the path forward. Each needs to be attached to a corresponding statue:

  • I am the void and the emptiness. I am the starting point.  I am infinite – Circle Mask from Ivory Sanctum
  • I am the end of the road. I am superiority. I am loneliness – Summit Mask from Pulura’s Falls
  • I am the unknown. I scare cowards but reveal my secrets to the brave – Darkness Mask from Heart of Mystery
  • I am the impetus to act. I am a reason for torture, and a cause for insomnia – Question Mask from Ineluctable Prison

Doing that opens a portal to a puzzle-filled dungeon of the Enigma, the Abyssal plane of demon lord Areshkagal. As you progress through the dungeon, in the lower-left corner of it you will find yet another page on a shelf. The Storyteller managed to leave his mark even there!

The room with the Elven Notes has one of the two red crystals which makes it easy to recognize. If you are looking for a way to solve the puzzles of the Enigma, it requires an entirely separate guide so you will not find it here.

Elven Notes – Iz

  • Associated quest: Heart of the Fallen Land

The fallen Sarkoris capital city of Iz holds many mysteries – and another coveted page of Elven Notes. It is located in a locked chest guarded by a vicious Vavakia. Requires lockpicking.

ACT VI – The Final Threshold

Elven Notes – Threshold

  • Associated quest: The Final Threshold

Your final chance to uncover the past of the Storyteller – and to cheese combining the two halves of the Lexicon of Paradox – comes in the very last location of the game. Namely, the fallen fortress of Threshold, the very heart of the Worldwound.

No checks, puzzles or secrets – simply loot the notes from a table. It is next to impossible to miss as the location itself is quite linear.
