The Winter Summit is over, and we now know what’s on the Old School Runescape 2024 Roadmap.
Old School Runescape players can start preparing for a year of brand-new challenges and returning quests. Jagex, the UK studio behind the hugely successful MMO throwback revealed what’s coming in 2024. Adventurers can expect a new area expansion, iconic RuneScape quests, overhauled PVP content and much more this year.
Revealed during the weekend’s Winter Summit, the upcoming area expansion into Valamore tops the bill of updates. First seen in 2023’s Winter Summit, this new land will go live on 20 March 2024. It will allow explorers to set foot in Civitas illa Fortis and the vast Avium Savannah and experience new quests, the Fortis Colosseum, the Perilous Moons minigame and the Hunter Guild. That’s just the beginning. A second section drops during the summer, taking us to the opulent island Aldarin and the less inviting mountain range north of Civitas illa Fortis.
Old Made New
Upcycling is all the rage these days and it looks like we can expect some of that in Old School Runescape. Jagex is bringing back some iconic questlines to 2024’s Old School campaign. The Defender of Varrock and the While Guthix Sleeps quests will return with a few tweaks to make them adequately appealing for those with and without long memories. PvP will also get a makeover, with The Chaos Temple unlocking for lower-level players, so we can bring even mor bodies to the slaughter.
Alongside the content headlines, Jagex has been busily working away on the back end. This year, we will see a shinier Gielinor in HD Mode. This new client-side option includes enhanced graphics, fully dynamic lighting, sunlight effects and fog. The new Client Plugin API for OSRS also means we can expect add-ons for both PC and mobile. How extensive this finally ends up being is not entirely certain. There’s already a community maintained Open-Source API, but this new official programming interface means both PC and mobile players should be able to start loading in game helpers with a lot less tinkering.
This is, of course, just the headlines for the Old School Runescape 2024 roadmap. To find out everything about what’s coming this year then head check out the live stream replay, above.
