It seems that Starbreeze, responsible for games like Payday, Dead by Daylight, and other shooter-y things will be the go-to publisher for the much anticipated and likely very out-there platformer Psychonauts 2. From the legendary and controversial Tim Schafer and his Double Fine team, Psychonauts 2 was Fig’d successfully last year, and is expected on XB1, PS4, and PC in 2018. No word if it’s going to make its way to the Nintendo Switch.

From IGN’s coverage:

“We are excited to be working with them because they are from a development background just like us, and so they know where we’re coming from,” Schafer said of Starbreeze in the video update.

Starbreeze is investing $8 million in the production of Psychonauts 2, and after that investment, the studio will receive 60 percent of the profits from that point on. Double Fine will retain the rights to the Psychonauts IP.”

Our thoughts?

We still don’t know all that much about how Psychonauts 2 will play, but chances are it won’t mess with the formula that made the original such a successful and loved game. For now, here’s a sweet art test for a quarry, with the announcement on Starbreeze’s support which the team just put out.
