During yesterday’s Starfield Direct, the Bethesda team took to the airwaves to discuss Starfield before its September 6th release date. Game Director Todd Howard and other members of the development team discussed character customization, the game’s main questline, where some NPC names came from, and much more. The presentation lasted over 40 minutes and gave fans tons of new information.
Viewers were given a peek at ship customization. Players can build, customize, and upgrade several ships during their time in the game. Of course, ships are used in space exploration with the ability to land on and discover over 1,000 planets and everything between them. The team wants players to have unique experiences. As a single-player game, no two gamers will experience the same planet in the same way. Each one is procedurally generated but becomes unique as a player explores.
Once planetside, players can decide whether or not to build an outpost that becomes a hub for their activity while on the ground. As with most Bethesda games, these outposts can be placed virtually anywhere on a planet and customized in whatever way suits a player’s needs. Once constructed, players can assign NPCs to work there and set up a way to send resources and cargo between outposts. Of course, outposts also include crafting tables, research stations, and more.
The Starfield Direct video offers much more information about character customization and the leveling process, so be sure to look.
In addition, the team also unveiled the preorder editions for the game that are now open. Xbox Game Pass owners will be happy to hear it’s a Day One game. The Digital Premium Edition ($99.99) offers players several in-game bonuses and 5-days of early access, the Shattered Space story expansion, a constellation skin pack, the OST, and an artbook. The Standard Edition ($69.99) is the game only.
