The Starfield team has updated the game’s official site with an end-of-the-year post that looks back at the game since its release and peeks at the future moving forward. While not long, several interesting tidbits emerge out of the article.
First, an infographic showcases some of the outstanding stats that have been gathered since the game launched in September 2023. Among the most interesting:
- 13 million players have taken off for worlds unknown.
- Players have amassed 22,284,331 hours of gameplay with 25M+ hours building ships, 1.9B planets visited, and 4M+ outposts settled.
- The Ecliptic faction is the most dangerous for players, with the Ashta coming in as the most dangerous lifeform.
- The most trusted weapon is the Combatech Beowulf which has racked up over 595M kills
What’s Next?
Players have a lot to look forward to in 2024. Most notably, developers will deploy significant updates on a six-week cadence starting in February. These patches will feature quality-of-life improvements alongside content and feature improvements. A new Steam Beta Branch will emerge, allowing players to try out updates before being deployed into the full game.
The team is vested in responding to player feedback. This means the community will be finding new ways to travel, city maps while exploring major cities, an expanded shipbuilding and customization system, new building options, and more.
Other improvements and additions
- New gameplay options will allow players to use various settings to customize their experience further. Players can tweak carry capacity, cargo access distance, ship damage, vendor credits, how afflictions are suffered, add survival mechanics, and much more.
- Official mod support is coming with the launch of Creations in early 2024. “Modding has always been an enormous part of our games, with incredible community-made content constantly bringing fresh new experiences. With the scale and systems in Starfield, we can’t wait to see what you come up with!”
As for the more distant future, the article is brief, simply stating that “the team is hard at work on the development of Shattered Space, our first major expansion coming next year.” According to the article, players can expect new story content, locations, gear, and more. There are plans in the works to share more details next year.
