There’s a time and a place for throwing money at a screen, and it seems that the German government is all in on the upcoming Everspace 2 launch after flinging 1.65 Million Euro at Rockfish.
Take my money meme’s aside, developer Rockfish Games just announced a major boost to the full launch of Everspace 2. After a lengthy time in the vast outreach of early Access, Everspace 2 is due to blast onto Xbox PlayStation and PC next year. Before that countdown completes, Rockfish has a sizable injection of cash from the German games fund grant. The Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection has added a hefty wad of cash used to bolster small, mid-sized, and large video game studios of all kinds in Germany.
So what does that mean for players?
Well it certainly doesn’t mean that the German government bought over 43000copies of the game. It does mean that Rockfish can continue to work on a space faring shooter that has greatly impressed during Early Access and test flights, without compromising on artistic vision or general quality.
“The government’s continued interest in supporting German studios shows a commitment to fostering local talent and the creation of new IP in a growing creative field,” shared Michael Schade, CEO of ROCKFISH Games. “As we close in on the launch of EVERSPACE 2 in 2023, our team is looking to what’s to come in the future, and this grant is helping make it happen. We’re excited to share that ROCKFISH Games will be using this grant as part of our €3.9 million major expansion for EVERSPACE 2 planned to release in 2024. While we’ll have more to share about this content in the future, I will say that this major expansion will give EVERSPACE fans more star systems to adventure in as we explore stories focused on the companions of EVERSPACE 2.”
It also means the studio can keep on hiring to. In addition to an expanded Marketing department, the ROCKFISH Games team is continuing to expand. Opportunities in Programming and Art roles are currently open to increase momentum on Everspace2 and aid in developing future projects. For those that didn’t get a look already, Everspace 2 is a sci-fi sim that continues the story of Adam Roslin from the first part of the series. Beginning this part of the story as an immortal clone space pilot, the central protagonist will evolve into an evocate and impactful influence across multiple open world star systems, and the galaxy as a whole. Featuring a multitude of quests, factions, and some slick space combat, this is definitely one to look out for if you enjoyed either the first Everspace as much as we did or recently grabbed a free copy of Star Wars: Squadrons.
Everspace 2 is currently available in Early Access on Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store. With the sixth and final major content update Ancient Rifts dropped just a few days ago, version 1.0 is planned to release on PC, as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles in early 2023. This is also when a fully optimized version for Steam Deck will be available. Check out more on the official Steam Store page now.
