A swathe of Xbox accessories are going to stop working from 12 November thanks to Microsoft.
Grab your controllers, clutch your headsets close, and check of you’re getting error code 0x82d60002 on your Xbox. Owners of Microsoft’s gaming platforms have taken to social media and started reporting a new error code on their machines. The warning does not signal catastrophic doom but does signal a change in the platform’s compatibility for some external add ons. Peripherals that are not officially listed in Microsoft’s support list may stop working as of 12 November. The error that is reportedly occurring details most of the crucial information, showing:
“A connected accessory is not authorized. Using unauthorized accessories compromises your gaming experience. For this reason, the unauthorized accessory will be blocked from use on 11/12/2023.
For help returning it, check with the store it came from or contact the manufacturer. To see authorized accessories, go to www.xbox.com/accessories. (0x82d60002).”
Other outlets like Windows Central have confirmed first hand that this is impacting UK Xbox owners already, and the general feeling seems to be that the budget end of the market is most at risk.
How To Avoid Issues
While it seems that the like of expansive flight sticks and racing rigs are also in a precarious position, the average consumer can avoid any issues by checking for fully Designed for Xbox controllers and headsets, like the Victrix Gambit and Audeze Maxwell. While we don’t have an official statement from Microsoft on the issue it seems we might have a new Xbox Controller on the shopping list for Black Friday.
