Playstyle Freedom At the Forefront of God of War Progression

God of War

If you have been following the development of the latest God of War game to enter the franchise, April 20th cannot come soon enough. To tease what players have to look forward to and entice those who haven’t already preordered, Sony Santa Monica has dropped a video with the team’s mindset behind God of War’s new progression system.

“This God of War game is definitely the biggest one ever made,” says Jason McDonald, lead gameplay designer on the title. “We want player is the game with a different Kratos than someone else’s Kratos – even though it’s still Kratos, at the end of the day,”

To aid in this customization, plays will be able to craft and collect armour that will both update Kratos’ aesthetic and apply a possibility of six different stats. These stats (strength, runic, defence, vitality, luck, and cooldown) will impact the way that you play the game. Having access to gear with different stat weight will be important as you traverse the game and fight enemies with different strengths and weaknesses.

“The core of him (Kratos) will be always in the game in terms of what he feels like, what he can do, how strong he is … we wanted to make sure that there are enough options there that the players can customize him to whatever they like doing,” says McDonald. “Basically, whatever you want to do, it’s probably somewhere in the game…”

  1. Insane with this game and Assassin’s Creed: Origins both released in the same year. Good times, good times.
