Lofree Launches Ultra-Thin Edge Keyboard

Edge Keyboard

Typing heads to a new low today with the news that Lofree has launched the Edge, an ultra-thin low profile mechanical keyboard.

Big keys and satisfying physical feedback are at the core of my desktop experience these days, but Lofree is out to change the bulky typing experience with the new Edge keyboard. Just launched, the follow up to Hong Kong manufacturer’s Lofree Flow is a thinned down TKL setup that tops out at just 5.4mm thick but still manages to cram in mechanical keys.

Designed as something that seems equally happy on the go as on a desk, the thinnest keyboard I’ve seen in some time is built using a semi-solid casting magnesium alloy and 3K-density carbon fibre. This lends it a distinctive look and plenty of strength for heavy handed instances or when you need on the go stability. The chassis houses the latest Kailh POM Switch 2.0 keys. A travel distance of 2.4mm and a slimmed-down thickness of 9.8mm means players, content creators, or spreadsheet warriors will still get solid feedback from the gasket mounted design.

The Edge likely won’t be for everyone. While the keyboard aims to deliver something as thin as a MacBook air with far superior experience, it isn’t yet compatible with fruit-based devices. Compatibility with Apple’s desktop and laptops is expected to come in an OTA update in Q4 2024. This means windows users will be able to plug in or connect via Bluetooth and try out a different typing experience. I’m not entirely sure how it’ll fare for spamming heals, but it’s got to be a better option than chucking a cheap gamepad in your bag. If you’re interested, the Edge hits Kickstarter on 25 April or you can head to the official Edge keyboard website now.
