The first in a planned series of developer diaries has been published on the Expeditions: Rome site. The diary begins at the beginning by explaining the game itself and the vision moving forward. The article begins with devs apologizing for being silent for so long but that they are excited to begin sharing more news about the game in the months ahead.
E:R is a single-player Turn-Based Tactical Role Playing Game set during the Roman Republic era roughly between 100BC and 40 BC, around the time when Rome was slowly starting to turn into an empire. At its core, Rome is an RPG, where you play the role of either the son or daughter of a patrician family, leading your Praetorians and Legions in battle across multiple regions while navigating the intricacies of Roman politics.
Knowing what the game is planned to be then leads to the studio’s visions for what it will bring to players in terms of gameplay:
- Create an immersive, story-rich RPG with player-driven choices. Players can choose to play as a male or female.
- Include exciting turn-based combat to the game with a range of tactical options. There are more weapon varieties and class-based skills available to players.
- While engaging in turn-based combat, players are simultaneously leading the army of Rome and growing its numbers, supplying troops, etc.
- The game world is based on a historical framework and is believable and fun.
