Fans of anti-authoritarian punks Refused are about to get a treat as the band becomes the sound of sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077.
This announcement is more than just a simple soundtrack tie in. Just like the recent cosplay contest, this announcement is out to give fans a flavor of Night City before they finally arrive. Announced today by CD Projekt Red, the acclaimed Sweedish punk band are set to write and record as the voice of in-game musicians SAMURAI. SAMURAI is a group of in-game icons and chrome rockers who use music to rebel against the system. Discovered playing a backstreet bar in Night City, SAMURAI has a number of hits, including “Chippin In” and “Fade Away”.
The Noise
Now, Refused has unleashed their own raw sound on the SAMURAI catalog and released “Chippin In” as a taster. You might even recognize this single from the last few moments of the Cyberpunk 2077 E3 trailer. While the result sounds just as furious as you’d expect from Refused, it seems the band was pretty hyped for the whole experience.
“Like us, SAMURAI is a group of rebels, albeit in a different time and place,” said Dennis Lyxzén, Lead Vocalist of the band Refused. “Working together with CD PROJEKT RED, writing music and song lyrics for Cyberpunk’s chrome rock icon was fun, but also very different in the creative sense. It was an unexpected challenge that turned out to be right up our alley and really got us going. The songs turned out great and the game looks insane,” added Lyxzén.
We’ve already spotted the single available on major streaming sites such as Spotify and YouTube if you are eager to have a listen. Cyberpunk 2077 is due to hit PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on 16 April, SAMURAI and all. You can already pre-order one of the various versions of the game or find out more about the game at the official Cyberpunk 2077 website.
