Take A Look at Arrakis in This Huge Dune: Awakening Feature

Open World Survival MMO Dune: Awakening released a new look at Arrakis.

Funcom has revealed a new featurette and trailer for the upcoming survival MMO Dune: Awakening. Loading up onto social streams just as the Denis Villeneuve directed story returns to big screens, a new pre-release series gives us a different view of this iconic franchise. Set in the sands of Arrakis, Dune: Awakening will challenge players to survive on a planet that turns out to be mostly desert and entirely hostile.

To find out what that means, publisher Funcom dropped a fascinating look at the wider game world in the first Dune: Awakening Direct. The first in a series of direct-to-consumer streams, this showcase gave us a look at how players will survive Arrakis. A new trailer gives a glimpse of the Sleeper’s journey as they wake on this barren world. With the most rudimentary tools available in this far future timeline, they will need to outrun colossal Sandworms, the powerful houses of Dune, and a range of other potential death traps. You can check out the Survive Arrakis trailer above, but that’s not all we got.

The Dune Direct showcase also gave us a glimpse behind the cover, at how the developers built the world. In Creating Worlds: From Book to Film to Game, Funcom takes us on a breath taking journey into the heart of Arrakis, featuring never-before-seen footage from the game. Interviews with Greig Fraser, academy award-winning Cinematographer on Villeneuve’s Dune Part 1 and 2, and Funcom Creative Director, Joel Bylos, reveal the creative overlap between Dune: Awakening and the recent movies. It’s only 7 minutes long, which barely touches the surface of this epic, but it’s an interesting preview and a chance to take a look at Arrakis.

If you haven’t heard of the upcoming Dune: Awakening MMO then you can find out more about this ingenious spin off over on the official website. With an unannounced release date across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S., there’s still plenty of time to catch up on Dune and Dune 2, before trudging out into Arrakis for yourself.
