Shadow Casts Gaming Tier Cloud Desktops Into Austria and Canada

shadow desktop power upgrade review - desktop app

Shadow, the gaming grade cloud computing service, is finally coming to Austria and France today. Consumers in these two new territories can forget the blazing fast laptop and get top tier gaming hardware in the cloud.

Shadow desktop begins rolling out to a bunch of new players today. Beginning in Austria and Canada, this new deployment for the ‘desktop in the cloud’ service is eventually set to also hook up players across Italy, Denmark, and Sweden starting September 27 — as well as Spain this fall. For now, anybody who has tried current on the go gaming platforms is in for a very different experience. While services like Stadia and GeForce Now borrow bit of power to deliver a the latest Genshin update, Shadow draws on a range of Intel, Nvidia, and AMD platforms to deliver a fully functional gaming desktop.

Logging in from anywhere might even sound like an overstatement, but this product provides access to almost any system with an internet connection, and a top end GPU at the other end. Prices begin at 29,99€/$/£ or 39.99$ CAD for the base setup. This includes:

  • GTX 1080 or equivalent
  • 3.5Ghz processor with 4 cores and 8 threads,
  • 12GB of RAM
  • 256GB of expandable secure SSD storage.
More Power

Even better, the brand-new Power Upgrade means that Shadow is now offering the recently announced second tier of power for the most demanding gamers:

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 3070-class or AMD’s latest RDNA 2 based GPU
  • AMD EPYC™ 7543P (WIP) 2.8 GHz (up to 3.7 GHz) with 4 cores and 8 threads
  • 16 GB
  • 256GB of expandable secure SSD storage.

Both options run a window 10 OS support some serious gaming at astonishing speeds. This is thanks to a wealth of experience, and several points of presence across the globe.

When considering this new rollout, the staged deployment makes sense. Achieving low latency and the smallest ping means this team of techs have to work locally to keep the distance to your online desktop down. That doesn’t, however, mean that anybody interested will need to wait until 26 October to get more power and add the additional 14,99€/$/£ or 19.99$ CAD extra for that ray tracing goodness. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing what a Power Upgrade can do. I’ve used Shadow in the past and the ability to get 120Hz ray traced adventures on a mobile screen is something I cannot wait to see on my unassuming Motorola. If you’re interested in getting in on the action or just want to find out more about Shadow’s new business version of this desktop offering, then take a look at the latest blog post or head over to the Shadow website for more.
