Starship Troopers: Extermination Opens A New Front on Valaka in Mutated Sands Update

Starship Troopers: Extermination industrial map overview

Starship Troopers: Extermination just got an important new location, mutators, and new weapons as it takes the fight to the Bugs in a Mutated Sands Update.

The Mutated Sands: 0.3.0 Update just landed in the latest Starship Troopers spin off. The co-op survival shooter from Offworld Industries, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Consumer Products, has called in support to take back a brand-new region of Valaka. Players who picked up the Early Access edition of this offensive operation will find themselves pushed into a new confrontation with the insect army as they lead an assault to retake the Fuel Depot. This new map is replete with factories that provide multi-level environments to combat the Bugs. Expect to take cover behind industrial storage tanks, make rapid movement across huge clusters of pipework, and use sprawling walkways to get to the high ground.

The new map isn’t just about new tactics, there’s a chance to cause additional carnage with the Machine Gu Emplacement. This technically is a weapon structure rather than a simple assault rifle. Once built, this powerful kinetic weapon will blow away any incoming invaders. Largely inspired by the on screen weapons from Sony’s iconic film, this is sure to be useful in choke points.

The Mutated Sands: 0.3.0 Update also introduces Mutators, brand-new game variants that can adjust the parameters of every match—such as increasing Bug Health—to add variety and augment difficulty for more dynamic combat. Accompanied by balance adjustments for all weapons and various quality-of-life improvements, the Mutated Sands: 0.3.0 Update is the first step in bringing ST:E to its fully-realized 1.0 edition. This is a major step forward for Starship Troopers: Extermination, a game that has a steady roadmap and looks likely to make it to full launch with a decent player base. The co-op survival shooter drops players into the front lines of a war between insect like alien armies and the dogmatic meat grinder that is the Mobile Infantry. Once on a mission, players must scavenge, build, and fight the oncoming threat as waves of powerful beasties come crawling out the landscape to eliminate them. Thankfully you have big explosive weapons to help with that.

While it doesn’t have quite the subversive humor of the silver screen story, the game is still a ton of cathartic fun. You can check out our Early Access review or grab it in Early Access, with an additional sale discount, over on the Steam Store page.
